How often should you update your podcast social media assets?

I’ve recently been asked this question through Instagram and it’s so worthwhile that I wanted to bring it to everyone.

Within Bamby Media, we supply social assets in packages to our clients that include snippets, purchased templates with their branding, quote graphics, audiograms and more. Everything changes colours (based on their branding colours) to keep them eye catching but they’re still the same basic graphics each week.

It’s a great idea to update your social media asset templates around every 3 to 6 months. Especially if you’re always sharing them the same way on the same platforms - you’ll find your feed filling up with the usual graphics and people won’t engage with them as thoroughly.

I’ll also share with you how you can provide context for your social assets and gain a bit more longevity out of your templates.

You can definitely shake things up by sharing a video instead of the usual audiogram. Videos change in every recording so you’ll be able to make every episode interesting and enticing to keep your audience engaged.

Welcome to Pump Up Your Pod this one goes out to Taryn, who has requested the answer to this question. Specifically, she contacted me in the Insta DMS. Shout out to you, Taryn. This question that I got was how often should I update my social media assets. So these are the things that you share on your socials. Obviously, it's like the audio grammes or photos and those sorts of things that you share to promote your show. And we certainly provide this to our clients to the ones that are on packages that include this. So we do snippets for them every week. And we have a few kind of templated out that they purchased when they first did a launch pack with us. So with that is normally, you know, one or two variations of sort of audiogram, maybe there's a quote graphic, depending on the package that they've purchased a few other things, and it changes colours based on their branded colours, you know, so kind of looks a bit different every time but not extremely different. Like you've only got a few things that you can choose from. So after a little while, they start to become the same, or you see a lot of it in your feed, if you're if they're always sharing it the same way every time.

It's definitely a good idea to update your social media assets, what you use as templates. And I would say every three to six months is the kind of timeframe that you should look at for updating those if you're only ever sharing audiograms and a quote graphic, or an episode graphic or something like that. And you're always sharing it the same way. Like it always goes to your feed, and you always do it on your stories, then pretty quickly, you're going to start to have the person watching your stuff. Like if they've connected with you a lot on Instagram and they see your things really regularly, then they're going to start to see those as just kind of templates that obviously it's the same and they might flick through it, you won't get that bigger engagement because it doesn't look any different. So even though the actual captions are different, the graphics haven't changed enough for someone to recognise that it is a different episode that you're promoting.

I've got a good example of someone that shares it quite well. We have a client called Kristy Robinson, she has a podcast called run your business like a boss. And what she does, and I certainly recommend that people do this is she talks about it on her stories first, and she'll say, hey, this week on the podcast, I've got x y Zed. Coming up, I'm really excited about it. This is why it's really good. This is what you're going to learn from it, she shares a little bit about it, and its face to camera sort of thing. And then she puts the social assets in after that. So it alerts them to the fact that yes, there's a new podcast episode, and the social assets that are following our for that podcast episode. So you're not just kind of sharing the social assets, with no kind of other info as to what that episode is about. You've got to give people some context, especially if the social assets aren't going to change that much, you need to be a little bit more varied and how you use it.

Another way to get a little bit more longevity out of your social assets is to not use them for every episode. So even though, for our podcasts for our clients that are on their packages, they get them for every episode, it doesn't mean that they need to share them in the same way for every episode. Sometimes they might just go face to camera and just share a link to the episode for Spotify and Apple on their stories without actually sharing the graphics. Or maybe they'll share the graphic but it's small, like it doesn't take up the whole thing. So that they can also be face to camera, but they're talking about it as there's a graphic next to it sort of thing. So it's not always that same format in the same way. So you've got to be a little bit more creative with the way you're using your social assets if they are similar or the same every time. And then after a little while, as I say three to six months. I mean three months is probably a little bit too soon. It depends on the kind of assets you have. But certainly every six months I would say okay, let's refresh this. Let's do something completely different. So that your people that are listening and connecting with you on Instagram, LinkedIn, tick tock, wherever you're sharing them, I can see that it's something new and fresh, and it's going to have them be engaged more.

The other thing I would say is don't always have it be audio grammes. So if you video some episodes, then you should be sharing them as videos as well get some templates done up that just have a little bit of your branding that you can share videos on and do it that way as well. That's really, really important. Video is a way that people are connecting a lot more. And you will hear me talk about video a lot on the podcast moving forward just because I can see the way it's going. And that tick tock has certainly been creating a little bit of movement around how podcast promotion works. So if you have an opportunity to do some video, then that would be something else. I would be sharing on your socials in a interesting way as well. And the thing with video as well that's good is that it changes all the time, you never look the same even if it's a solo episode and you do some video for it. You never look the same, you've got different outfit on maybe Did you make up differently or maybe you're in a slightly different location or whatever it is. And then if you've got guest episodes, then obviously you've got a different guest with a different face. So that all changes which means that it's it's easier to not get stale, and it's easy to engage more with that. But it does mean you have to actually record video and you have to have good lighting and make the video worth sharing. That's my thoughts on that. I look forward to chatting with you next time.
